During the push for the Asian American Studies Program, The Daily Northwestern covered the hunger strike. From The Daily's archives, here are a few of these stories with images of what occurred at the time.

AAAB and other student groups, such as Casa Hispana, Black Greek Council and the Bisexual Gay and Lesbian Association, utilized the Daily to recruit people to join the strike.

On April 10, 1995, the Asian American Advisory Board vowed to begin their hunger strike within two days.

"We often don't want to do what they want us to do, but that doesn't mean we don't listen," said Henry Bienen, University President at the time of the strike. The strike on April 13, 1995, started at the Rock and made its way through the Arch to the Rebecca Crown Center.

Similar to today, the Rock was used to advocate for change. The Rock was used as a starting point for the strike on April 13, 1995.

"Neither snow, nor rain, nor wind could stop the Asian American Advisory Board and its supporters from holding their rally," writes Daily staff writer Boaz Herzog in regards to the students that gathered at the Rebecca Crown Center for a strike on April 13.
