Home to the Residential College of Science and Engineering, Slivka’s tight-knit community is a haven for the scientifically inclined. But regardless of major, Slivka is an ideal option for anyone hoping to live up north in clean, comfortable and spacious accomodations. Residents live in suites made up of doubles and singles and hang out together in their communal recreation room, floor kitchens, music practice room and study lounges. With Lisa’s Cafe right downstairs, Slivka residents never go hungry.
“There’s always something going on. Even if you’re bored, there’s always something to do. People are just really nice and it’s always easy to find friends.”
Miriam Mikhelson, Weinberg sophomore
“What’s special is the community. There is always something going on in the background, whether it’s actual social events like watching movies or just hanging out. I like that it’s really close.”
Luis De La Garza, McCormick sophomore
“Something completely unique about Slivka is the mixture of people who are interested in science and mathematics and engineering, and also sports and videogames. ”
Henry Richey, Weinberg sophomore
“Slivka is a good place to live, mostly because we are a tight-knit community. We have fun events that we do together. We have professors that come in once or twice a week. It’s a place where you can also branch out. We have our token Medill kid, our acting kid. It’s also about meeting other people and expanding your interests rather than being stuck in one central mode.”
Rachel Inderhees, Weinberg sophomore
“When I visited as a senior in high school, I stayed overnight and my host lived in Slivka, and so I just kind of had firsthand exposure to it, and it seemed really nice. I liked the suite-style of living, and it was on North Campus. I’m up here a lot, because most of my classes are in Tech. I just got a really good sense of the community here, which is also part of the reason why I wanted to live here.”
Kyle Bushick, McCormick freshman
