Shepard Residential College at South Mid Quads

655 University Place

Similar to PARC, Shepard Residential College reopened after extensive renovations during the 2014-2015 school year. A non-thematic residential college, Shepard attracts a diverse range of students who engage with faculty fellows. Shepard is also known for its longstanding rivalry with Willard Residential College, played out each year in the annual Woo-Shep Olympics. Shepard has a designated dining room in Allison and is located near downtown Evanston.

What residents say

“While SMQ doesn’t boast the largest rooms or largest dorm on campus, it more than makes up for it with its inclusive and tight-knit community. There are always students in the lobby whether they’re playing Smash, competing in ping-pong, or watching the NBA playoffs. The atmosphere and community of a dorm is its most defining characteristic; in that regard, there are few competitors to SMQ.”

Joseph Kim, Weinberg freshman

“With its new lovely renovations, SMQ has become the eye candy of the south campus dorms. Sporting a sleek modern design for the entire building, along with its fully equipped kitchen, other dorms pale in comparison to its beauty. However, its true allure is with the daily shenanigans that goes on in the building.”

Marco Yeung, Weinberg freshman

“ I live there now and I’ll be back for next year, so clearly I’m biased, but really I think it’s been a great community for me. Many of my best friends I met here, and I’m now on the exec board as social chair. We’re kind of a crazy community, a lot of us are really good friends, and there’s always people hanging in the lounge, playing ping pong or video games or studying. ”

Katherine Steiner, McCormick freshman

“ Thanks to its relative small size with around 60 residents, SMQ has a small and tight-knit community that is almost “cult-like.” The community is quirky yet diverse, so everyone can easily find other people with similar interests. On top of that, we boast the best facilities on campus, including a full-equipped kitchen, a new electronic piano and hotel-level bathrooms.”
