Rogers House is a small Residential House on South Campus, known for its spacious rooms and calm atmosphere. Although located in the sorority quad, many students feel that the low number of residents can make the dorm a little anti-social. Additionally, in Rogers House, women and men live on separate floors, which is different from most other residential houses at Northwestern. The dorm is also located close to downtown Evanston and about equally far from various dining options, such as Allison, Willard and Plex.
“Living in Rogers House has been quite nice in terms of the condition of the facilities. The bathrooms are generally clean and very well-kept, and the rooms are certainly some of the larger and newer looking ones on campus. However, there isn't very much of a social atmosphere within the hall. You'd probably have to go pretty far out of your way to make friends with the people who also live here. RoHo is almost always quiet even when you might not want it to be, so I wouldn't really recommend it as a good choice for freshman or anyone else who wants to meet other students through their residence hall.”
Chris Chen, Weinberg freshman
“My experience in Rogers has been nothing short of phenomenal. It has provided just about everything I needed in a college living environment. Quiet living environment, proximity to larger dorms and huge rooms. The community is quiet and small but it means you get to know the people on your floor really well. I've made some great friends by living here.”
Isaac Sims, Communication sophomore
“Rogers House is a very nice dorm, with huge rooms, clean and spacious bathrooms, a nice lounge, and a great community. While the living is nice, it is not as social as some of the other dorms simply because it is so small. I would not recommend it to a freshman as their primary choice because it is easier to meet people in larger dorms, many of which are just as nice. That being said, if freshmen do not get into their primary dorms of choice, Rogers House is an excellent backup.”
Chris Landy, RTVF freshman
“As far as the facilities of Rogers, I feel they could be better. Personally, my room has had a lot of problems: carpet tiles coming up, room too hot constantly, even in winter, and ants. Socially, I feel like there is very little going on within the house, but maybe that's just my perspective. As a freshman on the first floor it's been pretty hard meeting people in my class and making connections. The bathrooms are pretty nice, actually, and the government this year has been fairly active.”
Cameron Smythe McDonald, McCormick freshman
“As someone who was hoping to live in Elder or Bobb, living in an extremely quiet 30-40 person south campus dorm has not been ideal. I found that I never got to know any of the residents, and even by the end of the year found myself seeing residents for the very first time, because it is such a quiet atmosphere.”
Isabel Lawrence, Medill freshman
“The rooms are pretty big and the dorm seems nice overall. I’ve been there once and I didn’t feel like there’s much of a social scene in the dorm and the people on the same floor aren’t close with each other. ”
Peter Kotecki, Weinberg freshman
“I don't know much about it, but I've heard that it's really nice, and I'd like to go in and see. Apparently it has really nice floors. It sounds like a cool place because everybody there is really low-key, but they're also all friends.”
