North Mid-Quads Residence Hall

650 Emerson Street

Despite its misleading name, North Mid-Quads is located on South Campus, equidistant from Allison, Foster-Walker and Willard dining halls and only a few steps to downtown Evanston. Like its sister residential hall South Mid-Quads, which is just across the quad, NMQ is home to a small, cohesive community comprised of mostly freshmen.

What residents say

“So NMQ is not necessarily the best dorm on campus – it’s small; there’s no air conditioning. But the people there are amazing – everybody’s really chill. You’re not going to have the loudness of Elder. It might be little less social than dorms up north. But you’re going to be able to find your niche of people in there. My best friends are in NMQ.”

Paige Leskin, Medill freshman

“The rooms are really small and the dorm itself is not the best, but I think the community that is formed by being so small is really well connected. So you can make some really good friendships there. And a plus is that the bathrooms are pretty clean because it’s a small dorm.”

Jeffrey Kim, McCormick freshman

“The furniture is kind of old and we can’t loft our beds so we have a lot less room for storage.”

Miranda Liu, Weinberg freshman

“The friendliness of the community made up for the lack of nice facilities.”

Kirby Gong, McCormick freshman

“Everyone gets along really well. People really bond over the fact that we live in NMQ. There are always people in the lounge watching TV or studying, but it’s definitely not a party dorm at all. If you want to get to frat quad, you can, but you’re not living right next to it.”

Emma Hill, Communication freshman
