Sargent Hall

2245 Sheridan Road

Perhaps best known for its dining hall, Sargent Hall on North Campus houses mostly freshman and sophomores. Sargent-living makes it easy to roll right out of bed and head to Tech for a 9 a.m or make it to the fraternity quad in under a minute. The dining hall serves as the main one on North campus and is also conveniently located a minute-walk away from Henry Crown Sports Pavilion fitness center. Although it is the best go-to for food on North Campus, there is still ongoing debate between whether Sargent or Allison has better dining.

What residents say

“When I got here, I noticed that my floor was very unsocial. I didn’t know any of the girls on it and I never saw them. Each floor doesn’t have a meeting room so that was very difficult. A huge positive is the location. I have a lot of classes in Tech and also the dining hall is right here, so in the winter when everyone has to walk over, I just have to walk downstairs. I think the room sizes are pretty good and I like the built in closets that they have.”

Sydney Rozenfeld, Weinberg freshman

“The location is really good, just for generally living on North campus, it’s more central. Having the dining hall inside is really nice. The rooms have really good storage and are a bit more homey-feeling. The other dorms like Bobb and Elder are newer, like the furnishings. As far as community, it’s kind of what you make of it. Some people in Sargent are really close, but myself, I’m not really friends with that many people in Sargent. It kind of depends on who you live by and who you meet at the beginning.”

Isabella Mistry, Weinberg freshman

“I had a bad priority number last year, so this is all that was left. It’s not the worst dorm. My roommate and I have a corner, which is bigger. I think the normal doubles in here are really small, so I’m glad that we got a corner room because it seems like a normal size, but that’s the best part about living here. The rooms are pretty small compared to other dorms. Also, my roommate and I are really the only juniors. Everyone else are freshmen basically.”

Zach Zaruba, Weinberg junior

“The facilities are on-and-off good. The showers occasionally work and sometimes they don’t. It’s really hot in the fall and the spring. It’s a really good location for STEM majors and it has a good social scene. It’s by the frats, but then also, it’s by the frats. So when they’re blasting music, you hear it always. Overall the building is really antisocial, but our floor does stuff.”

Cori Rodman, McCormick freshman

“At first it may seem a little sub par because the room isn't the biggest thing in the world, but you get used to that easily. The one thing that sets it apart from the other North campus dorms is the fact that we have a dining hall in our building, so during the winter it is so much easier to just walk downstairs without having to layer up to get some food. The lounge is always a decent spot to get some work done or just chill and watch TV or something.”

Justice Skolnik, Weinberg freshman

What non-residents say

“I heard that there are a lot of athletes that live in Sargent and that it has a really wide range of students, so you’ll have Comm majors, engineers and a lot of athletes because they are closer to SPAC and also closer to Ryan field, so it’s easier for them. And that’s also post-freshman year too. When I was at Sargent, people were in the lounge studying together. Clearly they all knew each other in the dorm. ”

Madison Rubelli, McCormick freshman

“I feel that Sargent is a pretty sought after dorm because it has the best food on North Campus in its dining hall. So it’s pretty convenient. Like, if you live in Elder, you have to go all the way to Sargent for breakfast. I’ve only been in Sargent rooms once, but they seem really nice. It’s a medium-good dorm on North campus. I don’t really know how social it is. I feel like it’s maybe not as unsocial as others, but probably less social than Elder.”

Abby Kamen, Medill freshman
