What residents say

“The two most annoying parts about SMQ are no air conditioning and the fact that you need a key to get out.”

Jason Sloan, Weinberg freshman

“Especially on my floor, a lot of people had apprehensions about not living in big North campus dorms. We call our floor or SMQ “the Bobb of the south” because it has that same kind of community. A lot of people on my floor are in frats; you don’t need to worry about not being up north and not having that party opportunity.”

Alex Warshawsky, Bienen freshman

“A lot of upperclassman who have lived in SMQ before really like it. I run into upperclassman that lived here and they want to talk to me about the dorm, and I don’t think that happens as much for other dorms on campus. You kind of share something that only people in the Mid-Quads get.”

Sam Hamilton, Weinberg freshman

“The temperature is really bad. During the winter they crank up the heat really high, so you basically have to be in shorts and a t-shirt in your room. I have to keep the windows open and the fan on during the winter. But then during the summer, we don’t have AC.”

Sofia Rada, Medill freshman

“I think it is underrated how fun it is, but it’s definitely not one of the bigger dorms where people are going out all the time. It’s not super lively, but it’s kind of nice to have somewhere that’s a little quieter to go home to.”

Sarah Thompson, SESP freshman
