East Fairchild (Communications Residential College)

1855 Sheridan Road

East Fairchild, also known as Communications Residential College, is a smaller housing facility on South Campus that houses mainly freshmen and sophomores. Many of the students who live here are Journalism or Radio/Television/Film majors, though students of many other majors live in East Fairchild. The residential college has many unique traditions, including Radiothon, which is a 50-hour continuous radio show that raises money for charity.

What residents say

“We have a darkroom. I love to develop pictures, so it’s nice I don’t have to go to a classroom to do that… Things seem a little bit dated. It isn’t the most modern or up to date dorm. The rooms are a bit small, but it’s a dorm room so what can you really do.”

Zach Laurence, Communication freshman

“I like the people the most. It’s very easy to just sit out in a lounge and have somebody walk by that you know and you can talk or you can study together. It’s very good place to have a community.”

Jenna Nedbalek, Communication sophomore

“Being an engineer, I get to be with a lot of people who aren’t engineering majors so I can see a lot of different things that happen on campus and what the different majors do… I do really enjoy CRC, and it’s a great place to be, but it’s made better if you plan to participate in events. If you just want to be by yourself, then it doesn’t really matter where you go… But if you want to be part of a community, go to CRC.”

Lukas Gladic, McCormick freshman

“It’s clique-y. There’s different groups that don’t hang out with each other. Not that they purposely don’t like each other, it just doesn’t happen. It was hard to make friends because everyone was already friends, because everyone just started hanging out with each other.”

May Lee, Bienen freshman
